What we check
The checker reads Company Profile, Officers and Persons with Significant Control from the Companies House Public Data API. It looks for public identity verification fields attached to each current natural-person Director appointment and current individual PSC record.
Director and PSC results stay separate. Company Profile provides context, but it does not contain the role-level evidence used to decide these statuses.
What the dates mean
Companies House defines the statement start date as the date a verification statement was supplied for the appointment or notification. The due date is the date by which it must be supplied. PSC records can also contain the date from which the statement may be supplied.
An identity verified date records when an authorised corporate service provider verified the person's identity. On its own, that date does not show that a statement has been supplied for every company role.
How statuses are decided
- Complete
- A supported current role has a valid statement supplied date and no recognised removal.
- Action required
- A supported current role has an open or passed API date or PSC window, with no active statement shown.
- Pending
- The API date or PSC window is in the future, with no active statement shown.
- Unknown / Review required
- The response is missing, malformed, unsupported, conflicting, partial or unavailable. Incomplete pagination also produces an Unknown result.
The open-ended date used by the API
In the live sample reviewed on 24 August 2026, Companies House used 9999-12-31 as the end date for every current role that had a supplied statement. The matching official register pages displayed "Verified" and "Verification requirements complete".
The published API schema does not explain this value as an open-ended marker. The checker accepts only this exact value with a valid statement supplied date. Any other future end date is sent for review.
Live validation
The field probe covered 15 selected companies and made 108 sequential API requests. It recorded no endpoint errors, incomplete pagination or list/detail identity verification mismatches.
The sample was chosen to test field shapes. Its coverage rates do not represent all UK companies.
What Complete does not mean
Complete is limited to the public statement for the role shown. It does not mean that the person or company is fully compliant, that every Director or PSC duty is complete, or that a confirmation statement can be filed.
Each result shows when its public data was fetched. Short caching may protect the upstream service. Check the official register if a result differs from a recent filing or letter.
